New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare has said that mistakes within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership could be a key reason behind the recent exits of party leaders in Punjab.

The remarks come after AAP’s young leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha announced that he was leaving the party, citing dissatisfaction with the functioning and decisions of convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Along with him, six other MPs also announced their departure.

Subsequently, Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak and Ashok Mittal joined the BJP. Reports also claim that 63 MLAs are under Chadha’s influence, with political observers suggesting the developments have shaken AAP and could put its Punjab government at risk.

Commenting on the churn, Hazare said switching parties for personal interests is not right, and that such moves may stem from internal problems. He added that if the party had stayed on the right path, leaders may not have taken this decision, and called for a democratic examination of the issue, noting that everyone has the right to express an opinion.

Hazare and Kejriwal had worked together during the nationwide anti-corruption movement in 2011, when Kejriwal participated in several protests and fasts led by Hazare.
