Chennai’s Nungambakkam police have registered a case against Balasubramaniyan (79), husband of AIADMK former minister Valarmathi, over an incident linked to polling in the Thousand Lights Assembly constituency.

According to the complaint, allegations surfaced during the election that DMK workers were violating rules by issuing tokens to distribute money to voters. Seeking action, Balasubramaniyan staged a sudden protest near the Valluvar Kottam junction, carrying an AIADMK flag and sitting on the road.

Police intervened and tried to stop the protest. The situation escalated when he reportedly lay down on the road, after which police personnel removed him by force.

Officials said he engaged in a heated argument with the police and is alleged to have used obscene language. A case has been filed under sections including obstructing government employees from performing their duties.

Meanwhile, Balasubramaniyan has claimed that police assaulted him and received treatment at the Kilpauk Government Hospital in Chennai.
