Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s State Cyber Crime Wing has arrested nine people in connection with the illegal online release of scenes from Janayagan, starring TVK leader Vijay. Among those held is assistant film editor Prasad, who has given a confession to police.
According to Prasad’s statement, he and his friends were working on editing another film at the same facility where Janayagan was being edited. He said his sister’s friend, a software engineer who was also working there, allegedly lured them by promising a large payout.
Prasad told investigators that, driven by the desire to become wealthy quickly, the group stole footage from Janayagan, took it home, edited the material and uploaded it to a website.
Meanwhile, the film’s editor, Pradeep Raghav, has faced action from the South Indian Film Editors Association. The association said he had been using non-members as assistants across projects, contrary to its rules.
Police said Pradeep Raghav has no direct link to the leak, but he reportedly admitted negligence. Following an executive committee meeting, the association has placed him under temporary suspension.
