KOLKATA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday claimed that the heavy turnout in the first phase of polling in West Bengal indicates an end to “misrule” and a shift towards a BJP government in the state.

Addressing a BJP campaign meeting in Dum Dum ahead of the second phase of elections scheduled for April 29 across the remaining 142 constituencies, Modi said the public’s participation reflects faith in the democratic process.

He alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress has been rattled by the scale of voting and said it shows people’s desire for change. Modi asserted that the “death knell” for the TMC’s governance has begun to ring.

Modi further said that after the election results on May 4, the state would see an end to the current regime. He promised that files related to every “injustice and atrocity” committed against the people would be reopened.

Warning those involved in violence and lawlessness, he said that after May 4, “TMC goons” would not be able to escape the grip of the law and would have no one left to protect them.
