Chennai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Friday said the voter registration activity linked to the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election was “routine” and did not warrant surprise.

Speaking to reporters, he claimed that lakhs of names had been removed through the SIR process. He argued that if those deletions had not happened, the registration figures would have looked similar to previous cycles.

Thirumavalavan said the current numbers only create an impression of an unusually high registration because of the earlier deletions. He added that every election cycle typically sees about 20–25 lakh new voters added over five years, and he said a similar number has joined this time as well.

He further asserted that the DMK would return to power and that the secular progressive alliance would secure a major victory, citing his party’s experience from meeting voters on the ground. He also clarified that his earlier remark about a post-election political shift referred to the vote share that actor-politician Vijay would receive, and said the picture would be clear after results.
