Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India and New Zealand are set to sign a bilateral free trade agreement on April 27.
Speaking to reporters in Agra, Goyal said the pact was finalised after extended discussions between him and New Zealand’s Minister for Trade and Investment, Todd McClay. He added that the agreement was concluded under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
According to Goyal, the deal is expected to expand trade between the two countries in the coming months. He said nearly 100% of India’s exports to New Zealand could reach the market without duties.
Goyal also pointed to potential gains for Agra-based sectors such as leather, handloom and handicrafts. McClay and his wife Nadine McClay, along with Goyal and his wife Seema Goyal, visited the Taj Mahal during the trip.
Negotiations for the agreement began in March 2025 and were completed in December 2025, the minister noted.
