Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged people to follow the ideals and teachings of Lord Buddha, saying they are especially relevant as the world faces uncertainty. He also extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

In his Mann Ki Baat address, Modi said Buddha’s message continues to be meaningful for people today. He highlighted the teaching that peace begins within each individual and that conquering oneself is the greatest victory.

Referring to conflicts and tensions across the world, the Prime Minister said Buddha’s principles have become more pertinent than ever. He appealed to people to draw inspiration from these values in their daily lives.

Modi also spoke about India’s progress in the energy sector, noting that the country ranks fourth globally in wind power generation and that capacity has crossed 56 gigawatts. He said the Kalpakkam nuclear power project is moving successfully to the next stage and described it as a significant milestone, adding that the reactor has been built using indigenous technology.

On the upcoming census, he said the population count will be recorded digitally and encouraged people to pre-register their details to help the process run smoothly. He also called for saving electricity, urged children to make the most of their summer holidays by learning something new, and asked everyone to take care of their health during the summer.
