Tamil Nadu continued to reel under intense summer heat over the past few days, with temperatures rising across several districts. Residents reported discomfort as the heat set in even before the peak summer period.
Vellore recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state on Friday at 40.2°C. Karur Paramathi followed with 39.5°C, while Dharmapuri and Madurai airport logged 39°C each.
Trichy registered 39.1°C and Erode 39.2°C. Other cities including Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Salem and Namakkal also experienced scorching conditions.
With the heat persisting, electricity consumption in homes has increased, pushing up overall power demand. Many people turned to tender coconut, palmyra fruit and fruit juices to cool down.
As similar conditions are expected to continue for the next few days, doctors advised the public to avoid going outdoors between 11 am and 3 pm and to take precautions against heat exposure.
