Tamil Nadu’s latest Assembly election saw a sharp rise in voter participation compared with the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. A total of 4.88 crore people voted this time, which is more than 50 lakh higher than the 4.37 crore who voted in 2024.

The data also underlines a broader trend in the state: public interest in Assembly elections is often higher than in Lok Sabha elections. Over multiple election cycles, Assembly polls have frequently drawn larger turnouts than the parliamentary contests held around the same period.

Past figures show that 3.30 crore voted in the 2006 Assembly election, compared with 3.03 crore in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. In 2011, the Assembly election recorded 3.67 crore votes.

In later years, turnout continued to rise: 4.06 crore voted in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, 4.35 crore in the 2016 Assembly election, 4.33 crore in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, and 4.62 crore in the 2021 Assembly election.

According to the reported table, the 2024 Lok Sabha election recorded a turnout of 70.06%, while the current Assembly election recorded 85.15%, alongside the higher total number of votes cast.
