The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by TAVEK leader Vijay.

The plea was filed by Venkatesh, a voter from the Perambur constituency, after Vijay contested from Perambur in Chennai and Tiruchirappalli East. The petitioner sought an inquiry into a declaration in the nomination that Vijay had extended a loan of Rs 12.60 crore to his wife.

In his petition, Venkatesh argued that suppressing true particulars in nomination documents would amount to undermining the election process. The matter came up before a bench led by the Chief Justice.

After hearing the case, the High Court dismissed the petition, noting that an earlier case raising the same demands had already been rejected and therefore the present plea could not be entertained.

The judges also dismissed similar petitions filed against Jayakumar and C.V. Shanmugam.
