An Iranian Member of Parliament, Ebrahim Rezayi, has said Pakistan is not suitable to act as an intermediary in ceasefire-related discussions between Iran and the United States.

According to the report, fighting involving the US, Israel and Iran has been ongoing since February 28. It said Iran’s actions during the conflict led to the blocking of the Strait of Hormuz, triggering an international energy shortage.

Pakistan’s outreach reportedly helped bring a ceasefire into effect between Iran and the US until May 1. However, when Pakistan recently invited both sides for a second round of talks, an Iranian delegation that travelled to Pakistan refused to hold direct discussions with the US.

The report said US President Donald Trump, angered by the development, cancelled the US delegation’s trip to Pakistan, leaving the prospects of renewed talks uncertain. In a post on X, Rezayi described Pakistan as a friend but argued a mediator must be impartial, and alleged Pakistan tends to align with US interests and avoids openly criticising Washington, including on issues such as Lebanon and frozen assets.
