In a nail-biting league match in Lucknow, Kolkata clinched victory in the Super Over, handing the home side a shock defeat. Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and chose to field.
Kolkata were rocked early by Mohsin Khan’s pace as they slipped to 93/7 in 15 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi was also dismissed for 9 under the “obstructing the field” rule while attempting a run.
Rinku Singh then produced a dramatic rescue act, smashing an unbeaten 83. He accelerated late with a six and two fours in the 19th over and followed it up with four consecutive sixes in the final over as Kolkata finished on 155/7, with Sunil Narine unbeaten on 4. Mohsin Khan led Lucknow’s attack with five wickets.
Chasing 156, Lucknow were kept in the hunt by Pant (42) and Markram (31), while Ayush Badoni added 24. Needing 17 off the last over, Shami struck a six off the final ball to level the scores at 155/8 and force a Super Over.
In the Super Over, Narine struck immediately as Nicholas Pooran was bowled first ball and Markram fell soon after, leaving Lucknow at 1/2 in 0.3 overs. Kolkata needed just two runs, and Rinku sealed it by driving the first ball for four.
