Gujarat registered a commanding 8-wicket win over Chennai in a Premier League T20 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. After winning the toss, Gujarat opted to bowl first and quickly put the hosts under pressure.

Chennai’s top order struggled early. Sanju Samson was dismissed for 11 in the third over off Kagiso Rabada, and Urvil Patel fell in the same over for 4. Impact player Sarfaraz Khan was out for a duck in the next over, while Brevish managed only 2, leaving Chennai reeling at 37 for 4.

Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad held the innings together, reaching his fifty off 49 balls and finishing unbeaten on 74 from 60 deliveries as Chennai posted 158 for 7. For Gujarat, Rabada picked up three wickets, Arshad Khan took two, and Siraj and Sudar claimed one each.

In reply, Gujarat openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan started steadily before Gill was dismissed for 33 by Noor Ahmad. Sudharsan then accelerated, bringing up a half-century off 33 balls and going on to score 87 before getting out. Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 39, with Washington Sundar on 1*, as Gujarat reached 162 for 2 in 16.4 overs.

The match also saw an unwanted record for Gaikwad, who registered the slowest half-century (49 balls) of the current season. He also shared fourth place on Chennai Super Kings’ list of slowest fifties, alongside Murali Vijay and Dwayne Smith.
