Chennai: Three days after polling concluded in Tamil Nadu, the Election Commission has not yet released constituency-wise details on how many votes were cast in each Assembly segment.

The single-phase Assembly election was held on April 23. Out of 5.73 crore registered voters, 4.87 crore cast their votes, taking the overall turnout to 85.10%. About 86 lakh voters did not vote.

Typically, the Commission announces an approximate turnout percentage on the night of polling, followed by final, precise figures the next day. It also publishes constituency-wise break-ups, including turnout among men, women and third-gender voters.

This time, however, those constituency-level figures have not been made public even after three days. It has been reported that a lack of urgency among election officials in the state has contributed to the delay.

Election officials said the delay was due to verification of polling data from all constituencies and that the complete voting details would be released today.
