Trichy district police arrested Arokiyasamy, DMK Manapparai East Union secretary, in connection with an alleged assault on a BJP functionary at a liquor outlet. He is also said to face multiple cases, including sand smuggling.

After the arrest, more than 300 of his supporters reportedly laid siege to the Manapparai police station. Police proceeded with the arrest and took him to the Trichy Government Hospital for a medical examination.

At the hospital, Arokiyasamy complained of chest pain and was admitted to the emergency ward. However, he allegedly refused to cooperate with doctors and did not allow them to conduct an examination.

Later that night, a Musiri magistrate who visited the hospital sought an update from the medical team. Doctors reportedly stated that his condition was normal and that the chest-pain complaint appeared to be an act.

The magistrate then told Arokiyasamy that remand and bail procedures could proceed only if he was medically fit. Following this, he reportedly said he was fine and that the pain was only mild, after which the magistrate ordered 15 days of judicial custody. He continued to remain at the government hospital citing treatment.
