Germany’s President Friedrich Merz has said it is not clear what strategy the United States is pursuing to withdraw from the war involving Iran, warning that the situation is growing increasingly complicated.

Speaking on the issue, Merz said uncertainty over Washington’s approach is adding to the complexity of the conflict. He also remarked that Iran appears stronger than many had expected.

Merz said the Iranian people are being humiliated by their leaders, while noting that Iran continues to negotiate “intelligently” even amid heightened tensions.

He also pointed to reports of mines being laid in the Strait of Hormuz, cautioning that this could disrupt global energy supplies and trade. Merz urged restraint in dealing with Iran and called for the conflict to be brought to an end quickly.
