Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia, saying he plans to consult President Vladimir Putin as part of efforts to end the conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel.

His visit comes as uncertainty continues over a second round of peace talks on a permanent ceasefire. While a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the US is currently in place, it has been extended without a time limit by US President Donald Trump, according to the report.

The first round of talks held in Pakistan did not succeed, and preparations for a second round have been underway. However, with both Washington and Tehran taking firm positions, there is no clarity on when the next round will be held.

Araghchi recently travelled to Pakistan for the proposed second round, met Pakistani officials and then went to Oman. He later returned to Pakistan unexpectedly and held discussions with Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir.

On arrival at Pulkovo Airport in St Petersburg, he was received by Russian officials and Iran’s ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali. In a social media video, Araghchi said the Pakistan meetings were “successful” and “constructive,” and that discussions covered the direction and conditions under which the peace process could move forward.
