Iran has laid down a set of conditions for the United States, saying discussions on nuclear issues can take place only after steps are taken regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
The development comes as the US-Iran conflict remains under a temporary halt. US President Donald Trump has said the pause would continue until peace talks lead to an agreement.
According to the report, an initial round of talks held in Pakistan ended without success, and efforts for a second round have been repeatedly postponed as both sides continued to raise conditions.
Iran has now conveyed three demands to Washington through Pakistan. It wants a US guarantee that there will be no renewed attacks on Iran and Lebanon; only after that, it says, talks can begin on reopening and managing the internationally vital Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has also insisted that the US must withdraw from actions aimed at blocking the Hormuz region. It said only if these steps are met would it discuss the US’s main demand—nuclear energy and uranium enrichment.
