Oil marketing companies have temporarily stopped providing new domestic LPG cylinder connections to households, following an order from the central government.
The move comes amid disruptions in fuel shipments to India after war-related tensions in West Asia in early March affected shipping routes. From March 9, distribution of commercial cylinders was halted, and the booking interval for household refills was increased.
According to the report, the refill booking gap was raised from 21 days to 25 days in cities and to 45 days in rural areas.
In the meantime, complaints have emerged that some existing LPG users were obtaining additional cylinders by taking new connections using other people’s Aadhaar numbers. A Petroleum Ministry official said new connections will resume once cylinder distribution stabilises.
