A social media post by Perumalsamy, Congress North district president in Thoothukudi, has triggered a fresh controversy within the DMK-led alliance. In the post, he claimed that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) would emerge victorious in the district.

Perumalsamy said TVK would secure 40–45% votes and win in Thoothukudi, Ottapidaram, Kovilpatti and Tiruchendur constituencies. He also claimed the party would get more than 25% votes overall.

He further asserted that Vijay’s victory was “certain” in Perambur and Tiruchi East, and argued that a Congress–TVK tie-up would have been a “winning alliance”. He added that if Congress allies with Vijay in the next Lok Sabha election, it would benefit the party in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

In the same post, he also criticised those who, while remaining in Congress, work for other parties, likening them to termites eating away from within.

Party sources said such posts by district-level leaders are being seen as a sign of strain, with speculation that the DMK–Congress alliance may not continue after the election results, adding to the internal friction in the coalition.
