A fire that broke out at an LED screen manufacturing unit in Bengaluru spread rapidly to a nearby private women’s hostel, prompting a frantic escape by residents late at night.
The incident occurred near Rajkumar memorial road in Nandini Layout, where a four-storey PG accommodation for women is located adjacent to the factory. The flames reportedly moved quickly from the factory to the hostel building.
More than 50 women were staying in the hostel at the time. On noticing the fire, they rushed out of their rooms and jumped from the first floor to the ground to save themselves.
They then climbed over the hostel’s compound wall and got out to safety. Fire and rescue personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control at both the factory and the hostel.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, though an electrical short circuit is suspected. CCTV footage showing the women fleeing by jumping to the road has surfaced on social media, drawing widespread attention.
