The Cauvery Management Authority (CMA), at its 50th meeting held in New Delhi on April 29, directed the Karnataka government to release 2.5 TMC of water to Tamil Nadu.
The order follows Tamil Nadu’s request during discussions on water releases to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from the Cauvery system.
The CMA was set up to monitor the Supreme Court’s directions that Karnataka must provide 177.25 TMC of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu every year, with allocations fixed month-wise.
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee supports the CMA by providing necessary assistance and meets once a month to deliberate on releases.
As per the latest direction, water is to be released from the Kabini reservoir to Tamil Nadu.
