Iran’s military has said the war in West Asia is still continuing, even though a temporary ceasefire with the United States is in place.

The ceasefire between the US and Iran—linked to the wider US-Israel-Iran conflict—has been extended until May 1. However, talks aimed at making the halt permanent have run into disagreements. Iran has indicated it could defer discussions on its nuclear programme for now, but the US has refused to accept that approach.

US President Donald Trump is also reported to be pushing to secure control of the Strait of Hormuz. Reports further suggest he is considering increasing economic pressure by targeting Iran’s oil exports and restricting shipping movements to and from Iranian ports.

During a state visit to the US, Britain’s King Charles III urged Washington to stand firmly with Western allies amid uncertainty. Trump said the King agreed with the view that Iran should not possess nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, Iran said the Strait of Hormuz remains under its control and that military readiness continues, with targets and equipment updated, according to spokesperson Amir Akraminia. Separately, Lebanon’s health ministry said eight people were killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon despite the ceasefire being in effect.
