Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused the Congress, DMK and other opposition parties of repeatedly letting down women, alleging they do not want “our daughters” to enter the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
Speaking at a women’s conference in Varanasi, Modi said India’s push to become a developed nation is moving forward without obstacles, and stressed that women’s power is a key pillar of a “developed India.”
As the Varanasi MP and Prime Minister, he sought public blessings to fulfil national goals, including implementing women’s reservation in Parliament and state legislatures. He claimed that a recent attempt related to the issue in Parliament failed due to the Congress and the Samajwadi Party.
Modi said the BJP and its alliance are working to make women self-reliant, empower them and give them leadership roles in building a developed India. He also alleged that opposition parties had obstructed women’s reservation for 40 years and criticised “dynastic” parties for resisting women’s political representation.
During the event, he also laid foundation stones for new projects worth Rs 350 crore and inaugurated completed works.
