The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, has issued a heavy rain warning for parts of Tamil Nadu, forecasting intense spells in select districts on May 1 and May 2.
In its bulletin, the RMC said light to moderate rain is likely over the Western Ghats, south Tamil Nadu and coastal areas of delta districts. It also indicated a chance of heavy rain at one or two places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri on April 30.
For May 1, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul and Theni. On May 2, the warning extends to Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Madurai, Theni and Virudhunagar.
The weather office added that light to moderate rain may occur at a few places across interior Tamil Nadu till May 5. Until May 3, maximum temperatures could be 2–3°C above normal in some locations, and high heat combined with humidity may cause discomfort in a few coastal pockets.
