President Donald Trump said the United States has “defeated the enemy militarily” and would not allow it to regain strength, speaking after meeting Britain’s King Charles III at the White House in Washington.
The British monarch and Queen Camilla are on a four-day state visit to the US, linked to the country’s 250th Independence Day celebrations. They received a ceremonial welcome from US military personnel in Washington.
At the White House, Trump hosted King Charles and Queen Camilla and said his administration was working to bring ongoing tensions in the Middle East to an end.
Trump also said the US would not allow the enemy to obtain nuclear weapons, adding that King Charles was equally firm on the issue.
King Charles and Trump are scheduled to attend a joint session of the US Parliament, and a state dinner has been arranged as part of the visit.
