A superintendent working at the District Chief Educational Office for private schools in Viruthampattu, Katpadi, Vellore, was arrested on bribery charges on Monday.
Police identified the accused as Senthilkumar (56), who served as an office superintendent at the district education office.
According to the complaint, a private school in Katpadi had recently applied to renew its recognition licence. The official allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh, stating the renewal would be processed only if the bribe was paid.
The school management approached the Vellore Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police. Acting on their guidance, a school representative handed over Rs 25,000 at the district education office, after which officers who were lying in wait arrested Senthilkumar.
