Actor Vijay, who launched the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on February 2, 2024, had earlier said that his film Jananayagan would be his final movie as he moved into active politics.
After holding the party’s first state political conference at Vikravandi in Villupuram district on October 27, 2024, Vijay began a statewide outreach programme and drew large crowds. During a visit to Karur on September 27 last year, a stampede-like situation reportedly led to 41 deaths, following which he stayed away from political activity for several days before resuming district visits about a month later.
Meanwhile, Jananayagan was announced as a Pongal release, but the film got stuck at the censor stage and has still not been released. The report also claims the film surfaced online illegally, adding to Vijay’s frustration.
Against this backdrop, Vijay is said to have held discussions about acting again and decided to take up a new project regardless of the election outcome. Sources close to him claim he has been approached for a big-budget adaptation of writer and Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan’s novel Velpari, to be produced by a leading Indian production house.
According to the sources, Vijay was initially hesitant because he had announced Jananayagan as his last film, but later considered doing one more film and then concluding his cinema journey. The new film’s shooting is expected to begin a few months after the Assembly election results, the report said.
