Bengaluru was hit by intense summer rain on Tuesday evening, with thunderstorms and hail reported across several parts of the city. The downpour led to flooding on roads and strong winds that uprooted trees in multiple localities.

The India Meteorological Department had earlier indicated the possibility of heavy rain in Bengaluru and other districts of Karnataka from April 29 to May 4 due to heat-related atmospheric conditions. After a hot morning, dark clouds gathered after 4 pm and the rain intensified between 5 pm and 6 pm.

In Shivajinagar, the compound wall of the Bowring Government Hospital collapsed suddenly. Eleven people—including vendors seated along the footpath and three children standing near the wall—were trapped under the debris.

Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and began clearing the rubble. Four people were rescued alive, while seven others—three women, three men and a five-year-old girl—died after being crushed.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior officials, including Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, inspected the site and later visited the hospital to meet the injured. The Chief Minister announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of those who died and directed officials to ensure quality treatment for the injured.
