West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that polling booths were not secure during the day’s voting, accusing central forces of intimidating and attacking voters.
Speaking in Kolkata, Banerjee said incidents of baton-charge were reported from several places. She also claimed that many Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers had been detained despite court directions.
Banerjee alleged that central forces had “taken over” polling booths and questioned whether such actions were part of their mandate. She said CRPF personnel should not harass anyone.
According to her, the alleged excesses began from the previous night, with multiple party members taken into custody. Calling it contempt of court, she said she had not seen such developments in a democracy and asserted that TMC would win the election.
