Chennai: Post-poll surveys released on April 29 have projected that the DMK will form the next government in Tamil Nadu. However, the seat estimates differ widely across agencies, with some polls showing a close contest.
The Tamil Nadu Assembly election was held in a single phase on April 23. The report notes that a party needs 118 seats to form the government.
In the election, the DMK-led front comprised the DMK, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, MDMK and DMDK, while the AIADMK-led front included the AIADMK, BJP, TMC and PMK. Seeman’s Naam Tamilar Katchi and actor Vijay’s TVK contested separately, and Ramadoss and Sasikala also formed an alliance.
Among the surveys, Chanakya Strategist projected DMK at 145–160 seats, while People’s Pulse put it at 125–145 and Republic TV–P Mark at 124–145. Axis My India’s estimate stood out by projecting TVK at 98–120 seats and DMK at 92–110.
Other projections included Metris (DMK 122–132; AIADMK 87–110), Agni (DMK 169; AIADMK 64; TVK 1), Times Now (AIADMK 128–147; DMK 75–95), and a “poll of polls” that put the AIADMK alliance at 114–124 and the DMK alliance at 103–113.
