India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection for April 2026 touched a record high of Rs 2.43 lakh crore, the Union Finance Ministry said on Thursday. The figure is 8.7% higher than the GST revenue collected in April last year.

In its statement, the ministry said the April collection marks the highest monthly GST mop-up recorded so far. Despite continuing global uncertainty, business activity remained steady, the data indicated.

The ministry noted that domestic GST revenue increased 4.3% to Rs 1.85 lakh crore, while revenue from imports rose 25.8% to Rs 57,580 crore. Higher GST on imports was seen as a key driver behind the overall rise.

From the GST tax pool, Tamil Nadu was allocated Rs 8,413 crore as its share, which the statement said is 46% higher compared to the previous year.

Recent monthly GST collections were: April 2026 (Rs 2.43 lakh crore), March 2026 (Rs 2.01 lakh crore), February 2026 (Rs 1.83 lakh crore), January 2026 (Rs 1.93 lakh crore), December 2025 (Rs 1.74 lakh crore) and November 2025 (Rs 1.70 lakh crore).
