A rental car driver in Chennai has received a notice demanding payment of Rs 4.70 crore as Goods and Services Tax (GST), prompting him to file a complaint with the city police.

The complainant, Kamalanathan from Vellore district, said he has been living in Chennai with his family for the past 10 years and earns about Rs 25,000 a month by driving a hired car.

He stated that the notice was delivered to his native home address. When he approached GST officials for clarification, he was told that a private firm named “Kamal Enterprises” had allegedly been registered in Tiruppur and Hosur using his PAN card and Aadhaar details.

According to the complaint, the officials informed him that the notice was related to GST compliance of that firm and advised him to approach the police. Kamalanathan alleged that unknown persons misused his identity documents to set up the business and sought legal action against those responsible.
