A new political party named the Secular Socialist Congress has been launched in Chennai, aiming to bring together Congress functionaries and workers who are dissatisfied ahead of the Assembly election.
According to the report, sections within the Tamil Nadu Congress had pushed for an alliance with T.V.K. for the upcoming polls. However, the Congress decided to continue in the DMK-led alliance, after which some office-bearers reportedly stayed quiet and showed little interest in election work.
Several leaders who sought Assembly tickets and felt sidelined are said to have quit the Congress, including former party spokesperson America Narayanan, former Mahila Congress leader Haseena Syed, and Mahatma Srinivasan.
Srinivasan has now founded the Secular Socialist Congress and introduced the party flag in Chennai on Wednesday. He alleged that long-serving workers like him were not given recognition, and claimed that those around Rahul Gandhi had “sold seats for money,” adding that the new party would work to unite dissidents and strive for social justice.
