Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has condemned the increase in prices of commercial LPG cylinders, saying it is unfair to raise rates without considering public welfare.

In a statement, Stalin alleged that the BJP-led Union government increased the commercial cylinder price soon after the election, as he had anticipated. He also said that when global crude oil prices fell earlier, the benefit was not passed on to people.

Referring to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Chief Minister said the crisis should not be used as a reason to burden the public with higher prices.

Stalin urged the Union government to recognise the impact of the hike and withdraw it immediately, stating that livelihoods must be protected.
