Tamil Nadu’s political parties are in a state of uncertainty after post-poll surveys offered sharply different projections on who will secure a majority in the Assembly election.

Polling for the Tamil Nadu Assembly was held on April 23, and vote counting is scheduled for May 4. After the final phase of polling in West Bengal ended, several agencies released their exit poll estimates.

According to the report, around 10 agencies including NDTV–People’s Pulse have projected that the DMK will return to power in Tamil Nadu. In contrast, surveys by Times Now–JVC and CNN have indicated an AIADMK win.

The projections for TVK have added to the confusion. India Today–Axis My India has estimated TVK could win 91 to 120 seats, while Today Chanakya’s latest exit poll put DMK at 114–136, AIADMK at 34–56, TVK at 52–74, and others at 0–2.

With surveys also suggesting a decline in votes for Naam Tamilar Katchi compared to its 8.22% share in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, parties say the final outcome cannot be reliably predicted. Leaders across camps are now waiting for May 4 to know whether a clear majority emerges or a hung Assembly scenario develops.
