A fire in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area claimed nine lives in the early hours of Saturday, May 3. The incident was reported around 3:30 am in an apartment complex.
After receiving an alert about flames in the residential building, the fire department rushed to the spot and began rescue operations. A total of 12 fire engines were deployed to control the blaze and evacuate residents.
Officials said 15 people trapped on the second, third and fourth floors were rescued. Nine charred bodies were recovered from the second floor, and the victims were reported to be burnt beyond recognition.
A short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire, though the exact cause has not been confirmed.
In a separate incident in Haryana’s Gurugram, police recovered five bodies—including a woman and four children—from a house in the Wazirpur area. CCTV footage from the vicinity has been seized and an investigation is under way; the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.
