India’s private-sector space push marked a milestone with the successful launch of ‘Mission Drishti’, described as the country’s largest private satellite. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the GalaxEye team for the achievement.
The satellite, developed by Bengaluru-based space technology startup GalaxEye, was sent to space aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk. The mission is billed as the world’s first “optosar” satellite.
According to the report, Mission Drishti is designed to capture clear images of Earth in all conditions. It is expected to provide near real-time data for sectors including security, disaster management, infrastructure and agriculture.
Weighing about 160 kg, the satellite is being highlighted as a significant private initiative from India. In a post on X, Modi said the launch reflects innovation and the nation-building spirit among youth, and extended his wishes to the company and its entire team.
