Chennai: Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Saturday alleged that gambling and betting were being carried out by using actor Vijay’s name, with a group spreading rumours that TVK is in the lead.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Thirumavalavan said his party had been meeting people directly on the ground and claimed that public support was in favour of the DMK-led alliance. He asserted that the alliance would secure a “grand victory” and that the DMK government would continue.
Referring to his earlier remarks about work not being done in a few constituencies, he said he had made those comments to discipline party cadres. He added that in some places, internal party issues had contributed to such lapses.
Thirumavalavan also said VCK workers had played a commendable role for the DMK alliance, and alleged that some people were repeatedly targeting VCK to create confusion within the alliance. He claimed attempts to split the alliance had failed.
On the betting allegations, he said that before the election, gambling was conducted by projecting the DMK, and after polling, the same was now being done by projecting Vijay. He said those behind it would be disappointed after the election results.
