Chennai: M.K. Stalin has resigned from the post of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister after he was defeated in the Kolathur constituency. He sent his resignation letter to the Governor.

The Governor accepted Stalin’s resignation and requested him to continue in office until a new government is formed.

In a social media post, Stalin thanked voters who supported the DMK-led secular progressive alliance in the recently concluded Assembly election, calling every vote a “priceless trust.”

Citing available figures, he said the alliance had received 15,482,782 votes. He added that the party which won more seats secured only 1.743 million more votes, with a vote-share difference of 3.52 percentage points.

Stalin said his party would pursue people-centric politics whether in power or in opposition, and that it would now continue as a strong opposition, pledging to carry forward its journey to protect identity, language and the nation.
