Several candidates with links to the Tamil film industry entered the fray in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, delivering a mixed set of results across constituencies.

TVK leader Vijay contested from Chennai Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East and won in both seats. In Thoothukudi, actor Srinath—described as Vijay’s friend—won on a TVK ticket, defeating DMK minister Geetha Jeevan with 1,00,536 votes to 62,805.

In Maduravoyal, Revant Charan, identified as one of the owners of Chennai’s Rohini Theatre, won for TVK with 1,41,725 votes against DMK’s Ganapathi (80,216). In Chennai Egmore, Rajmohan—who has directed a film and acted in a few—also won for TVK with 53,901 votes, defeating DMK’s Thamizan Prasanna (43,097).

On the DMK side, former minister Udhayanidhi Stalin won from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni with 62,992 votes, ahead of TVK’s Selvam (55,852). Producer Ambethkumar won from Vandavasi on a DMK ticket with 63,805 votes, narrowly ahead of AIADMK’s Rani (60,472).

However, several film personalities fell short. Director Sundar C, contesting on an AIADMK symbol for the Puthiya Needhi Katchi in Madurai Central, finished third with 33,538 votes. Actor Karunas, contesting under a DMK symbol for the Mukulathor Pulipadai party in Sivaganga, also ended up third with 57,300 votes. NTK coordinator Seeman secured 30,793 votes and finished fourth, losing his deposit, while actor Mansoor Ali Khan polled only 101 votes as an independent in Lalgudi and lost his deposit. In Pennagaram, producer association president GK Thamizhkumaran, contesting for Congress, was defeated with 53,901 votes.
