Vijay has been elected as the leader of the TVK legislative committee, following the party’s performance in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
TVK secured victories in 108 constituencies. However, forming a government requires the support of 118 MLAs, meaning the party does not have a clear majority on its own.
Against this backdrop, a meeting of TVK’s newly elected MLAs was held on May 5 at the party’s headquarters in Panaiyur, Chennai.
At the consultation, all MLAs present backed Vijay, and he was unanimously chosen as the legislative committee leader.
With TVK falling short of the majority mark, the party will need support from other parties to form the government.
