BJP leaders have decided to hold the oath-taking ceremony for the new West Bengal government in Kolkata on May 9, in what they describe as an early step to connect with the state’s cultural roots and win public confidence.

The date is significant as it marks the birth anniversary of Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore. Party leaders see the choice of day and venue as symbolically important.

According to reports cited in the current developments, Suvendu Adhikari is expected to take oath as the new chief minister. The reports note that he has defeated Mamata Banerjee in two consecutive contests.

During the West Bengal Assembly election campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a pointed remark that a “new West Bengal under the BJP” would emerge on Tagore’s birth anniversary, the reports recalled.
