Chennai: In the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, the BJP, which contested 27 constituencies as part of the AIADMK-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has been pushed to third place in 20 seats.
The party secured victory only in Ooty, where its candidate Bojarajan won.
BJP managed to finish second in six constituencies: Sattur, where state president Nainar Nagendran contested; Avinashi, where Union minister Murugan contested; and Rasipuram, Thali, Gandharvakottai and Vasudevanallur.
In the remaining 20 constituencies—including Coimbatore North, where sitting MLA Vanathi contested, and Mylapore, where former governor Tamilisai contested—the party ended up in third place.
In Modakurichi, BJP candidate Krithika lost by a margin of less than 5,000 votes, with a difference of 2,430 votes. In all other constituencies, the party’s candidates lost by margins exceeding 5,000 votes.
