TAVEK leader Vijay met Tamil Nadu’s acting Governor Arlekar in Chennai on Tuesday (May 6) and staked claim to form the government. He also handed over a letter from the Congress extending support to his party.

According to the report, TAVEK has won 108 seats in the Assembly election, emerging as the single largest party. Vijay has also sought support from the VCK and the Communist Party of India to demonstrate a majority.

Vijay met the Governor along with six MLAs from his party. He submitted the list of TAVEK’s elected MLAs and the Congress support letter, and requested the Governor to allow TAVEK to form the government.

The report notes that 118 seats are required to form a government. While TAVEK won 108 seats, the count is stated as 107 after accounting for Vijay’s wins, and the Congress has five MLAs and has offered conditional support.

Despite not having a clear majority, Vijay urged the Governor to invite TAVEK to form the government on the basis that it is the single largest party in the Assembly.
