Trichy East MLA and TVK chief Vijay is expected to submit his resignation from the constituency by May 18, according to reports.
In the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, Vijay contested from two seats—Perambur and Trichy East—and won both. As an elected representative can hold only one Assembly seat, he must resign from one constituency.
Sources indicate Vijay has decided to continue as the Perambur MLA, citing easier access to the Chennai-based constituency. He is therefore likely to step down from Trichy East and submit a resignation letter soon.
Under election rules, a resignation must be made within 14 days of the results being declared; otherwise, both seats are treated as vacant. With Vijay’s exit expected, TVK leadership is said to be considering its next candidate for Trichy East carefully to ensure voter acceptance.
