Chennai: The Congress has announced statewide protests across Tamil Nadu on Thursday, May 8, condemning the Governor for not inviting TVK to form the government.
According to the party, TVK is facing hurdles in taking charge as Chief Minister amid uncertainty over support from other parties. The Governor has stated that an invitation to form the government can be issued only after receiving letters of support from MLAs.
Congress said the Governor’s stance has drawn criticism from several parties, including the CPI(M) and VCK. The Congress, which has extended support to TVK, said it would intensify its opposition through public demonstrations.
In a statement, the party said the protest is also aimed at condemning the BJP-led Union government, alleging that it is acting to prevent TVK—described as the single largest party in the Assembly election—from forming the government.
The protests are scheduled for 11 am in all district headquarters. In Chennai, the demonstration will be held near the Tarapore Towers on Anna Salai under the leadership of the state Congress president.
