Court seeks explanation on voter transport

The Madras High Court has directed the Election Commission to respond to a petition seeking an inquiry into the alleged lack of transport facilities for voters during the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

The election was held on April 23. The petitioner claimed that many voters who attempted to travel to their native places to cast their votes could not do so due to insufficient bus services.

The plea was filed by Devadas Gandhi Wilson of Valasaravakkam, Chennai, requesting the court to order the formation of a commission to investigate the issue.

A division bench comprising Justices S. Soundar and B. P. Balaji also asked the Tamil Nadu government to file its response. The matter has been posted for hearing in June.
