Chennai: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has said it will not extend support to TVK’s attempt to form a government, stating that its position will align with the DMK.
With most parties yet to publicly declare their decision—except the Congress—TVK’s move to stake claim has run into hurdles. The Governor has also maintained that an invitation to form the government can be issued only after receiving letters of support from MLAs.
TVK has been awaiting responses from parties such as the Communists, VCK and the IUML. In this backdrop, the IUML, which has two MLAs, has rejected the request for support.
The party said its policy alliance with the DMK would continue. The development adds to TVK’s challenges, even as the Congress has already announced full support after placing a condition that TVK should not seek backing from parties in the NDA alliance.
