Chennai: Actor Kamal has said that failing to invite Vijay to form a government amounts to disrespecting the mandate given by the people of Tamil Nadu.
In a statement, Kamal noted that the Assembly election has produced an unprecedented verdict in the state, with no party receiving a clear mandate to form a government on its own. He also said Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had announced that he would respect the people’s decision and function as a responsible opposition, and Kamal said he appreciated that political maturity.
Kamal said constitutional authorities must now fulfil their duty in the same spirit. Pointing out that Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has won 108 seats, he argued that not calling Vijay to form the government undermines the people’s verdict.
He further said that 233 elected MLAs are still unable to take oath, calling it an embarrassment to the state and damaging to democracy. Citing the Supreme Court’s S.R. Bommai judgment, he stressed that a majority must be proven on the floor of the Assembly, not at Raj Bhavan, and said his remarks were a citizen’s principled voice rather than party politics.
